1. Bookings, cancellations & discounts
Bookings
Minimum stay: 2 nights
No check-ins or check-outs on Sundays, Tuesdays or Thursdays in peak season, sorry.
Parents with children: please note that top beds are high, stones are uneven and boggy bits are yucky. Please assess the risks for your individual children if they are under 12 so that you are comfortable with those risks whilst you are staying with us. There must be an adult staying in the Bothy if there are children under 18 staying - we have wood-burning stoves, hot plates, high sleepers and lots of expensive things in the Bothies.
Sorry, due to deer stags roaming the site, we cannot accept dogs.
Cancellations
We would urge you to take out appropriate travel insurance to ensure that you are covered in case of cancellation by either party.
No payment is taken on booking, as plans change and dates may shift, and we do our best to accommodate this. Plus it is expensive for us to process refunds and we are a small business with tight profit margins and big electricity bills to pay!
You will be sent a Payment Link by email (for card payment) around 14 days of check in, and full payment is due (at the latest) 7 days before check in.
If there is a cancellation within 7 days of check in, refunds will only be given if the booking can be filled last-minute by Back Track Bothies (usually we are able to fill any spaces, as we are very busy, except at the beginning and end of our season).
We are not greedy corporate crazies, so will always try to come to a compromise with guests, such as moving the booking to another date, or giving a credit for use on another date if payment has already been made.
We are also open to discussing payment plans for stays to spread the cost. Just reach out and email us. Thank you!
In the event of a 'no show', the full price of the booking including any extras, will be charge to the card linked to the booking. 'No shows' deprive us of income, and do not give us a chance to re-sell a Bothy. Usually, we will wait a few days after a 'no show' in case there has been a genuine reason for it and the guest or representative gets in touch, before we debit the card.
Discounts
2. Arrivals/Departures
Arrivals are from 1500-1900 (3pm-7pm). If you will be arriving later or running late, please let us know by text, phone call or email. If you'd like to be met on site, please mention this when you book. Otherwise, there will be a key for self-entry.
Departures are by 1000 (10am) to allow us to clean thoroughly before the next guests arrive.
Please help us (if you have time, no pressure!) by stripping the beds and placing bedding/towels on the floor, emptying rubbish at the Recycling Area, and take any glass/bottles to the bottle bank at the Glenfinnan House Hotel (which you pass on the way out) before leaving. Please remember to put the key back where you found it, thank you.
3. Groups
We welcome family groups, groups of friends, association or recreational club members (eg. walking groups) getting together for relaxing breaks or share hobbies etc.
Sorry, but we cannot take single-sex groups, such as hen and stag parties, 18th/21st birthday groups or groups of unsupervised guests under 18.
Back Track Bothies is not 'party central' and it would be unfair on our neighbours for us to accept such groups, sorry.
4. Sorry, we cannot accept pets (due to the roaming stags!)
5. Safety and security
All guests will have emergency contact details for us, and when it is appropriate to use them. No-one other than those named on the booking can occupy the Bothies overnight.
6. Quiet time
Noise pollution will be taken very seriously. We operate a strict 'no noise' policy between 2200 and 0700 to preserve the peace and quiet of our neighbours and other guests, and to respect their right to this. As a rule of thumb, if you are outside sitting round the fire pit talking and you are speaking louder than you would round the dinner table, then it's too loud!
7. Parking
Whilst we would love for everyone to come to the Bothies on public transport, we appreciate that many guests will still travel to us by car (hopefully quite a few in electric cars), so each Bothy has a parking space. Please note because we are adjacent to the Back Track (a core path) we cannot accept vehicles over 4.5 metres/15 feet in length.
Guests then walk up to their Bothy. No cars are allowed on site as there are no parking spaces beyond the car park. We provide a festival cart for each Bothy for ferrying suitcases and bags from cars, and for using to collect kindling and wood for the woodburning stoves, bath and fire pits. Great fun if you are travelling with kids, send them up to your Bothy when you arrive to fetch your cart! The nearest charge points for electric cars are in Fort William and Arisaig.
8. Respect the stags!
One of the benefits of living on the doorstep of such an amazing wild place is the presence of red deer stags. In the winter months they come down from the hills and can be seen in and around the village. Even in the summer they can be found mooching about the village. Please remember these are large, wild animals weighing around 200kg so give them a wide berth and please don't try to hand feed them or leave food out for them. 'Tame' stags are never really tame and get quite pushy if they associate you with food. Sadly, feeding stags can lead to them becoming a danger to folk and then eventually shot by the local estate factor and his team. Keeping a respectful distance, taking photos and observing them, will prevent this from happening.
9. No smoking or shoes inside, please
We provide a wee flowerpot of sand by each Bothy for cigarettes if you want to smoke. No smoking inside please.
Please, please, please take off shoes/boots on the black area just inside the door and use the rubber 'shoe tray' to store shoes and boots. We believe outside dirt and grime should be left outside and inside is for bare feet or padding around in socks.
Please note
Anyone ignoring these Terms & Conditions, and/or acting irresponsibly, will be judged to have terminated their contact with Back Track Bothies, and therefore their stay, and will be asked to leave immediately.

If the Bothies are full, have a look at our sister business, the Glenfinnan Sleeping Car, which is a hostel/bunkhouse for up to 10 guests, just 5 minutes' walk away at Glenfinnan Station.
The Sleeping Car is a quirky, cool, comfortable vintage train carriage with shared facilities. The private 'rooms' are actually compartments with the original sliding doors.
Most of the compartments are bookable by the night, with the exception of the 'Family Room' and the 'Whole Carriage' (exclusive use), which have a 2-night minimum.
We have no 'mixed' or 'shared' sleeping - guests book by the compartment.
